Janette Davie

Being older is no excuse for not "keeping up". For more than twelve months I have attended Conference Sessions designed to help me "keep up" - to understand blogs webs SEO Apps and the rest. My fellow travellers are young, bright entrepreneurs, in new business ventures. This blog, and several others was created many months ago, in a feverish start. Six months on I have cleared a little space to take another look at what is possible.

Wow what a wonderful life! They say that it's the effort one puts into all ventures that provides the truest sense of achievement and fulfilment... and I've certainly tried to make good of every minute of every day! During more than forty years in the aviation and travel industry, in several iconic Australian companies, across two continents, there was the chance to shape the direction of our great industry with roles in all the industry associations, and all at a time of great change. And along the way, there was enough time for others - family, community, and those less fortunate than me... Leadership roles, not only in my working life, but in Camp Quality, Ryde Family Support Service, The Drummoyne Rowing Club, and Southern Cross University to name a few. However, my time is now. Prime Time! The clock ticks. Whatever I am to do for the next ten years is not yet clear. "However, whatever I need to know will be revealed to me, and whatever I need will arrive in divine right order" - according to my Aunt Elizabeth - the wisest one of all... What is clear is that I'm entering a new and exciting chapter in life, and I'd better get on with it!

A Palm Beach Summer

A Palm Beach Summer
Everything is beautiful. The good rains in the last couple of months worked wonders for the lawns and gardens. That lonely long board, resting where Andy and Sophie's kayaks used to be, is now my "stand up paddling" board.... I hauled her down to the water's edge on the first day of 2011, to have a go at my first 2011 goal .. and after a few tumbles I got the hang of it,,, the red crocs made the difference.

The Accountant and his family

The Accountant and his family
This amazing photo shows Walter William Freeman, (great grandfather and Accountant for the Bodalla Estate) with 6 of his children. Grandfather Harold is sitting at the far left. This photo from the Mort Family collection was on display at the launch of Laurelle Pacey's book on Bodalla, and part of the Bodalla sesquicentennial celebrations. The photo is in the book, together with an outstanding history of the Bodalla area, the Bodalla Estate, and the family of Sir Thomas Sutcliffe Mort. How wonderful to visit the area again this year with cousin Bill and Lesley Freeman, and second cousin David... who are all explorers of our family's history.

Katherine - the gumnut

Katherine - the gumnut
Nothing's more amazing than School Christmas pageants and how talented grandchildren are. Katherine sang all kinds of wonderful Christmas songs, and she looked beautiful.

Leaving on a JetPlane

Leaving on a JetPlane
Ella, Jamie and Harry moved to live in Old Greenwich Connecticut, in December, with Andy and Sophie. Since then, they've had a couple of weeks skiing in Vail... the last few days of which were unavoidable... they were snowed in by blizzards both in Vail and in New York. They are skiing stars.. even Harry .. who spent an hour or so every day on the "magic carpet" in snow kindy!
